BOOMKAT REVIEW:
Despite coming from disciplines which differ markedly on the surface, Alva Noto (aka Carsten Nicolai; Raster Noton label boss) and Ryuichi Sakamoto have nonetheless fused their talents to produce a body of work which is both groundbreaking and achingly beautiful. Spearheading the recent bloom of piano music which called upon digital subtleties to massage the deceptively simple melodies into something more satisfying, Alva Noto and Ryuichi Sakamoto collaborated on the likes of 'Vrioon', 'Revep' and 'Insen' - bringing the ivory and silicon together with genuine grace and aplomb. With Raster Noton's faultless reputation for packaging well maintained, this gorgeous DVD and book is the first such release for the label and will become a full-fat prized possession in any music lovers collection. Recorded in 2005 and 2006 whilst touring the 'Insen' album, 'Insen Live' sees the intricate tapestry of their recorded work writ large in the live arena - with what could outwardly be an austere and clinical display becoming a warm and inclusive event. With Sakamoto poised behind the keys and Noto ensconced in a web of machines, the backing screen flourishes with throbbing lights which match the brittle electronics and enveloping Cage-esque ivories.

A huge thank you for posting this one. I keep trying to buy this DVD and it's never in stock. I want the DVD but I'm thrilled to finally at least have the audio from it. I have an audience recording from a Paris show and it's great but not this great. I love this blog, it is definitely in my top 3 now... On a completely other topic, when you still had the shoutbox I was talking with Skullcrusher (by the way thank you for getting rid of that thing, I'm so sick of hearing what all those fucking idiots have to say). I was going to let him know when my copy of Airport Symphony on Room40 arrived. Lawrence English just emailed me that he sent it last week so it should be here anyday. I have yet to finish setting my blog up so I was curious if you guys were interested in posting it until I do??? Let me know and once again thanks!
ey man, i´m waiting like hell for your post hahahaha, greetings
Skully :-)
I highly recommend you keep searching for a copy, dcastle666 - it's beautifully packaged and well worth it. However, beware: I purchased a copy which would stick about 50 minutes in; returned, purchased another from a different company, SAME PROBLEM. Plays on my laptop DVD player fine, though; wierd.
Thanks for posting this, I've been wanting a copy for the car.
