The Mount Fuji Doomjazz Corporation - Doomjazz Future Corpses!

Label: Ad Noiseam
Released: 05 Jun 2007
Style: Drone, Experimental, Ambient, Noise

Boomkat:

The Mount Fuji Doom Jazz Corporation is the heavy droning metal incarnation of The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble - the band formed by Jason Kohnen of Bong-Ra fame. The music here taps right into the current trend for blistering low-frequency guitar sounscapes, augmented with smatterings of KTL-style electronic skulduggery and eruptions of cello, sax and trombone. The overall effect of the album conjures expansive sonic wastelands which seem to heighten in sludgy intensity as the album goes on. In fact, the first two pieces here are comparatively subtle, the second in particular yielding some mightily impressive cinematic-sounding results. Across draughty plateaus of bottom-heavy bluster, arcs of grim cello sound out, making for a surprisingly digestible bout of doom. The distortion levels swell as the album marches on, and by the time the seventh piece starts up there's a voluminous sense of gritty forboding to the music that scarcely lets up until its eerie final movement in track 9.
